Hydro Mississauga Purchases Service Order
Scheduler![]() A project team consisting of Vivan McAvan, Bev Swech, Val Patton, and Dave Vaillancourt is currently testing a new service order scheduling product (shown in picture on right) which provides the ability for Customer Service representatives to easily manage workflow within our Orcom billing system. It has the capability to schedule available workforce resources based upon workforce availability, work force skill level and appointment requirements. This software will also allow our customers the ability to create and schedule service orders over the Internet. The main benefit of this software is its ability to download a service technician's daily service orders to a Palm Pilot and update the orders on the upload. This means, for example, that the service technicians would enter meter readings into their Palm Pilots and at the end of the day the readings and comments would be uploaded into the CIS and the service orders would automatically be closed. This same process could also be applied to meter change service orders in the Meter Department. All these service orders are currently processed manually. The first phase of this implementation would involve using this software to automatically process final bill service orders in the Customer Service Department and meter change service orders in the Meter Department. This represents our largest volume of service orders at approximately 25,000 annually. We plan to have this technology in production in the next few weeks. Further plans would include extending this process to provide the same benefits in the Operations area for new services and stakeouts.
